A Rewarding Volunteering Opportunity
Most of those reading this will be well aware of the Almshouse Building and the Bunny Village Hall and may have sons or daughters who have taken advantage of the Student Grants advertised each year.
On the other hand they may not know anything of the background.
The Bunny and Bradmore Charities own and administer the Almshouses and are the owners of the Village Hall which is run day to day by the Parish Council.
The student grants are from the income of one of the three charities, the Apprentice Fee Charity. The Almshouses are the responsibility of the Bunny General Charity and the Village Hall is the responsibility of the Parkyns School Charity.
The Charities are run by Trustees with the all important support of a clerk/administrator.
The Charities are currently seeking additional Trustees to take over from senior members who wish to give up the role.
Trustees play a very important role in ensuring that charities are run in the interests of the people they are there to support. They oversee the management and administration of the organisation and ensure that it is run in accordance with its objectives set out in its Schemes and the requirements of the Charity Commission. Trustees are not involved with the day to day running of the charities which is undertaken by their clerk/administrator.
Becoming a trustee fills a very vital role in the voluntary sector and gives the opportunity of working together with like minded volunteers. It is worth giving very serious consideration.
If I were to volunteer how much of my time would it demand?
Bunny and Bradmore Charities’ Trustees meet four times a year. Their meetings are in the evening and held in the meeting room within the Almshouse building. Between meetings trustees may be called upon from time to time for advice and support on various matters or to give their opinions on matters which cannot be deferred until the next quarterly meeting. This is usually done by email.
This is a brief outline only of the Trustee role. If you are interested in supporting this very important part of the life of the villages and helping to ensure the future of the charities please contact me or any of the current Trustees [available on request] who will be more than happy to talk with you and do their best to answer any questions.
